Using a nail gun, what size nail should i use to insure i dont hit any elec. or plumbing when putting up trim?

If there's electrical or plumbing in the framing where you're going to run the nail, the electrician and/or plumbers should have put up nail guards across the edges of the studs. These are metal plates with spikes that they hammer across areas that have wires and/or pipes running through for that very reason: prevent a drywall screw or trim nail from damaging the wires and/or pipes.

But, to answer your question, about 1-1/2 inches should do.Using a nail gun, what size nail should i use to insure i dont hit any elec. or plumbing when putting up trim?
You really don't need them going past the thickness of the drywall. Most drywall is 1/2 inch, 5/8, buy a cauking gun and nail glue.

Let the glue do most of the work and use nails only on the studs every 16 inches and you should have no problems.

You'll have less nail holes to patch.

I know you're not going to use framing nails, right?Using a nail gun, what size nail should i use to insure i dont hit any elec. or plumbing when putting up trim?
Do not use glue. You will hate yourself if you need to remove the trim. It happens.

Your trim is probably 1/2inch. Your drywall is at least 1/2 inch. If plaster even more. All electrical wires must be run at least 1inch in the wood or otherwise protected with a nail plate.

Smell ya later!
