I'm not sure how large they get. I have seen large ';spikes'; that were used to build wooden bridges, and they looked just like a very large common nail except they were about a foot long.





The largest nail I've ever bought and used was called a ';Gutter Spike,'; for mounting rain gutters to the ends of my rafters. Those also looked exactly like common nails, but were about 8 inches long, and about 1/4 inch in diameter.
Timber tight nails Ive seen as large as a dime round and 24'; long they are used for nailing railround ties together in landscaping
